From approximately late June/early July (subject to snow conditions) you can Ski Whakapapa, New Zealand's largest field on Mt Ruapehu. For up to date snow conditions and skiing packages see this link. A trip up the Sky Waka Gondola to the Knoll Ridge Cafe ion Mt Ruapehu s a must for everyone at any time of year, even if you're not a skier. Then relax and enjoy Lake Taupo with its excellent shopping and cafes. Luxuriate in our thermal pools or stroll or bike any number of beautiful trails on the lake edge.
Winter is the perfect time to escape to Taupo.
