If you have any questions just ask Garth or Angie. We welcome any comment or feedback.

Activities and Attractions
Please feel free to talk to us about the attractions and activities available in Taupo.
Whether you wish to shop, hike, bike, fish, play golf, bathe in our thermal pools or relax at one of the numerous excellent cafes, there will be something to suit. There are some amazing sites within a short drive of Whakaipo Lodge including Huka Falls, Aratiatia Rapids, Orakei Korako Thermal Valley and of course the beauty of Lake Taupo itself. We have brochures featuring many of the activities available. If you would like any assistance in recommending or booking activities please don’t hesitate to ask.
There are some nice walks just down the road from the Lodge at Whakaipo Bay. Turn right into Mapara Road out of our private road and its 1.5km to the turnoff to Whakaipo Bay Reserve on the left (sign says “Great Lake Trail”) and then 1km through the reserve to Lake Taupo. This is a beautiful and quiet bay, just perfect for a walk, ride or swim.
Our lodge gardens and small 4ha (10 acre) farm offers a nice, short walk. Meet the family: three black-faced, pure-bred Suffolk sheep: Big Boy, Little Sis & Mandy. They love apples. Also our Romney/Suffolk Cross sheep. (NB: Please ensure you leave any gates as you find them.)
We also recommend star gazing. Out here, away from the city lights, the night sky is quite spectacular. Try the free "Skyview" app on your smartphone to really enhance the experience.

Adaptors
We have a selection of international power adaptors that you can use if you require these.

Afternoon Tea
If you arrive at the Lodge in time for a complimentary welcome afternoon tea/espresso coffee (prior to 4pm) we would be delighted to serve this for you either in the guest lounge, in the Lodge gardens, at your patio table or in your suite. Please let us know which you would prefer.

Beauty Treatments & Massage Therapy
We can arrange in-room spa treatments such as massages & facials. Treatments are charged back to your room. Please contact Garth or Angie for treatment options/pricing and to book.

Bikes
We have excellent mountain bikes and helmets available for hire at special rates for our guests.
The renowned W2K track, part of the Great Lake Trail, starts at Whakaipo Bay, 10 minutes ride from the Lodge, and heads over the hill to Kinloch. This ride is suitable for intermediate riders or beginners looking for a challenge. The ride to Whakaipo Bay itself is lovely and anyone of moderate fitness and some basic bike skills can do this. On warm days take a dip in the pristine waters of Lake Taupo. (Adventure Shuttles can get you to all the best trails. Please ask us for rates if you need a shuttle.)

Breakfast
Breakfast is served between 7:30am-9am. Please let us know what time you would prefer. A delicious country breakfast is offered starting with cereals, including Angie's special home-made toasted muesli/granola, fresh fruit salad and freshly baked pastries and home-made bread/toast. Dining
There are many excellent cafes and restaurants in Taupo. We are happy to recommend these to you according to the dining experience you desire. We can arrange your reservation at the restaurant of your choice. Establishments we recommend are as follows: Our local pub, the Bay Bar & Brasserie, is five minutes away in Acacia Bay and is good for a relaxed meal. We also recommend The Brantry, Plateau Bar and Brasserie, Vine Eatery and The Bistro
A four-course, hosted dinner at Whakaipo Lodge is available by prior arrangement. (Please ask us if this option is available during your stay.) We pride ourselves on using the very best of local ingredients and showcasing these from the BBQ and our Lodge kitchen. Many of our ingredients come from our own Lodge garden or from local farms/specialty producers. Please see our current Hosted Dinner Menu for a sample of what we serve and current prices, including a glass of fine NZ wine with each course.
Available most evenings are home-made gourmet pizzas – a pizza menu is on the desk in your suite and in the guest lounge. (Enjoy these in the guest lounge or at the outdoor tables in fine weather.) No prior notification is required for pizzas but please let us know as soon as possible if you’d like to order these. (Please no BYO wine or beer in Lodge public areas.) Environmental & Sustainability Policy
Whakaipo Lodge is carbon neutral. We endeavour to minimise our impact on the environment, and we encourage our guests to join us in treating our environment in as eco-friendly a fashion as possible:
We recycle (please keep recyclables separate if possible), compost fruit and vegetable waste, use eco-friendly cleaning agents and plant based/natural insecticides. We have selected the most energy efficient lighting and appliances available. Whenever possible laundry is line dried. We minimise our water consumption. We grow our own fruit and vegetables for use in the Lodge and endeavour to source produce locally that we don’t grow ourselves.
Our extensively treed 4ha property reduces our carbon footprint and provides (from waste material) garden mulch and wood for heating. It is also home to native and exotic birdlife, including some rare and endangered species. More information is available here.
